Pumpkin Seed Oil - Rich, Nourishing and Versatile

There is a good reason why natural plant oils have gained popularity as of late; they are incredibly nourishing, lock in moisture, and can help you keep your skin healthy, youthful and brighter. Unlike our previous perceptions of oils which we believed to be harmful, particularly to those with oily skin, oils can do wonders for all skin types, including acne prone and oily skin. However, understanding which oils are comedogenic (likely to clog skin pores) versus

non-comedogenic (unlikely to clog skin pores) is key. If you are prone to having drier skin, you may want to stick with oils that are especially rich, healing, soothing and restoring. This includes most natural nut and seed oils, and this, of course includes one of our Fall favorites - pumpkin seed oil.

Benefits of Pumpkin Seed Oil for Your Skin

Pumpkin seed oil is extracted from the seeds of pumpkin which are high in essential fatty acids, vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. Specifically, an organic, high quality pumpkin seed oil contains omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, vitamins A, C and E, sterols, carotenoids, zinc, magnesium, potassium, and more. What this means is that not only is this oil very soothing and protective, but absorbs well into the skin not leaving a greasy or oily residue.

As a result of its anti-inflammatory properties, as well as its content of zinc, pumpkin seed oil is often recommended for treating acne-prone skin. It may help soothe the redness that often occurs and inflammation, improving the general appearance of the skin. Where this oil absolutely thrives is in the treatment of dry or aging skin as it improves the skin’s protective lipid barrier and elasticity which is compromised as we age.

Pumpkin seed oil thoroughly penetrates the skin and improving its ability to retain moisture. Vitamins A, C and E protect the skin against free radicals brightening our complexion with Vitamin A providing sun protection, and Vitamin C promoting the production of collagen - keeping the skin firm and supple. This oil also helps the skin to heal as it protect the skin against environmental stressors. All in all, pumpkin seed oil softens and smooths the skin by increasing elasticity.

How to Include Pumpkin Seed Oil into Your Skincare Routine

Because of its versatility, there are many ways that you can use pumpkin seed oil in your skin care routine. You can apply it directly to your body after a shower to help retain moisture or use it as a soothing spot treatment for acne. You can also add a few drops of this oil to your face masks or moisturizers to enhance the effectiveness of these products.

There are also many skin care products that contain pumpkin seed oil including our NaBii Organics Mango Smoothie Body Butter, a rich and incredibly nourishing body skin protectant that combines pumpkin seed oil with shea butter and mango butter. This creamy which butter smells amazing and provides the amazing benefits the skin needs to stay healthy, supple and radiant.
